About Our School

Spencer Nursery School is federated with Hackbridge Primary School.

Spencer Nursery School was originally built in 1946 and has provided education on the same site ever since. In 2004 the site was extended and refurbished to enable us to extend our provision to provide childcare and education for children under 3 years of age.

Spencer Nursery School is registered from birth and provides places for children from 3 months to 4 years.   We provide the following places:

  • 12 full day places per day for 0-2 year olds (over 50 weeks a year)
  • 5 full day places per day for 2-3 year olds (over 50 weeks a year)
  • 10 part day places per day for 2 year olds on free education funding (over 50 weeks a year)
  • 40 places per day for 3 and 4 year olds (over 50 weeks a year, with some term time only places available)

Spencer Nursery School is a local authority maintained nursery school with a constituted Governing Body that has responsibility for the school.  It is committed to delivering high-quality affordable childcare and education for children under 5 years of age.

Childcare and Education Services

Our Mini Macs unit for children aged from 3 months to 2 years (plus one term)

A major feature of the provision for children in this unit is a programme that meets the very particular individual needs of children from 3 months to 2 years by supporting their emotional, social and intellectual development within a very caring, supportive and stimulating environment.

The childcare and education is provided by a highly qualified team who are experienced with caring for children of this age group and who are committed to the provision of a nurturing environment, which supports individual children's growth and development.

Transition from Mini Macs to Mini Fi’s

The transition period from Mini Macs to Mini Fi’s is an important time for both children and their parents/carers. Spencer Nursery School will try to ensure that this transition goes as smoothly as possible.

Before your child transfers you will be given a letter to enquire which days you require on transition to Mini Fi’s. The office staff will discuss with individual families your requirements and what the school is able to offer.

Prior to a child transferring to Mini Fi’s, you will be offered a transition meeting and given a transition booklet, which will explain some of the differences between the units. The family's Mini Macs Key Person will introduce them to the child's new Mini Fi’s Key Person and all teaching staff. Each child will visit Mini Fi’s on a regular basis, initially accompanied by their Mini Macs Key Person. They will also join Mini Fi’s for lunch prior to transfer.

An amendment to your fees and contract will be issued at the time of transfer. You may be required to pay an additional deposit based on your child's new fees.

Our Mini Fi's unit for children aged from 2 to 3 years (plus one term)

Within Mini Fi's, a curriculum following the Early Years Foundation Stage is planned and taught by four qualified early years educators. A caring, supportive and nurturing education and childcare facility is provided within the unit.

Mini Fi’s offers both private and 2 Year Old Free Education Funding (FEF) places.

Children who are eligible for 2 year old FEF must meet certain criteria through the London Borough of Sutton, places will only be offered to children once their eligibility has been confirmed to the school.

All children, aged 2 years and one term, on this scheme are entitled to 570 hours of FEF, every academic year. Spencer Nursery School delivers this scheme over 50 weeks per year rather than on a term time only basis of 38 weeks per year. Therefore, children will be entitled to attend 3 morning sessions, 3 mid day sessions or 3 afternoon sessions per week, attending for 11 and a 1/2 hours per week.

We offer 10 part day places per day. Morning sessions run from 8.00am-11.50am, mid-day sessions run from 10.15am-2.05pm and afternoon sessions run from 1.00pm-4.50pm.  Each child on any of these places will attend for 3 sessions per week (attending for the same session each day).

We do not offer any term time only places for this funding.

The term after the term in which a child becomes 3 years old entitles them to receive 15 hours Free Education Funding via the 3 and 4 year old Free Education Funding (FEF). Please note, although we will try our best to accommodate any children from Mini Fi’s into Seniors, we cannot guarantee that your child would be able to access their Free Education Funding in Seniors, once they are eligible.  Once you have been admitted to Mini Fi's you will automatically be added to the waiting list for our Seniors class.

Transition from Mini Fi’s to Seniors

The transition period from Mini Macs to Mini Fi’s is an important time for both children and their parents/carers. Spencer Nursery School will try to ensure that this transition goes as smoothly as possible.

Before your child transfers you will be given a letter to enquire which days you require on transition to Seniors. The office staff will discuss with individual families your requirements and what the school is able to offer.

Prior to a child transferring to Seniors, you will be offered a transition meeting and given a transition booklet, which will explain some of the differences between the units. The family's Key Person will introduce them to the child's new Seniors Key Person and all teaching staff. Each child will visit Seniors on a regular basis, initially accompanied by their Mini Fi’s Key Person. They will also join Seniors for lunch prior to transfer.

An amendment to your fees and contract will be issued at the time of transfer. You may be required to pay an additional deposit based on your child's new fees. Children access their 15 hours Free Entitlement Funding the term after the term in which they become 3 years of age. All fees charged on transfer will take this into consideration.

Our Seniors unit for children aged 3 and 4 years

Within Seniors, a curriculum following the Early Years Foundation Stage is planned and taught by a qualified Teacher and four experienced Early Years Educators. A caring, supportive and nurturing childcare facility is provided within the unit that complements the core education day. It is provided by the same team who support the education element of the day to ensure continuity and security for the children in our care.  We offer 40 full and part time places on a flexible basis for children aged 3 and 4years of age.

The term after the term in which a child becomes 3 years old entitles them to receive 15 hours free education via Free Education Funding (FEF). To enable a child to access their full entitlement, they must attend for a minimum of three days per week.

For children on a FEF only placement, they will attend for their 15 hours on a term time only basis. All other children who access childcare and education, will automatically receive their Free Education Funding of 15 hours term time and any additional hours and holiday attendance will be charged as childcare, the details of which will be given in your personal financial statement when your child first starts at Spencer.
